Instructions for Directed Sperm Donor

These procedures can be performed 7 days a week, except for Christmas and New Year’s Day.  We ask that you collect the specimen here at WFI unless you live within 20 minutes of the clinic. In that case, you can ask to take a sterile plastic container home and bring it in to the office at your scheduled time.

Hours for collection

M, T, Th, F: 7:30-11:00 am.
W: 7:30-10:00 am.
S-S: 8:00 – 9:00 am.

If you are collecting at home, these times are drop off times.

Before the Procedure

You will be asked to abstain from ejaculation for 3-5 days prior to producing the sample for insemination.

What to Expect

If you have not completed the FDA required physical examination within 6 months, we will need to complete the examination on the day of the semen sample collection.

For the physical examination, one of our providers will complete the FDA required physical examination which is a thorough physical assessment for any signs of communicable disease.

For the semen collection portion of the visit, you will be taken to a private, sound-proofed room. You should wash your hands and collect the sample in the sterile plastic vial provided.  It is important that you write your name on the vial and the paper you are given or the sample will be discarded.  Next you will place the vial and paperwork into the designated silver door in the wall. When you leave the collection room, make sure you leave the door to the room open. You can exit the clinic through the back doorway if you wish.

After the Procedure

The semen sample will be processed by the laboratory and prepared for the insemination. Or, if the sample is to be frozen, the lab will prepare it for freezing.

Semen Count Results

You will be given the amount of total swimming sperm at the time of the insemination.  You will also be informed as to how this count relates to pregnancy rates.
